Materials not to compost:
- Meat and fish.
- Carcasses of shrimps, lobsters, crabs.
- Oyster shells and other molluscs.
- Bones.
- Fat and oil.
- Dairy products.
- Ash.
- BBQ briquettes.
- Content of the vacuum bag.
- Cat litter (It may contain pathogens).
- Other human or animal feces (They can contain pathogens).
- Rhubarb leaves (stems can be composted) The leaves of rhubarb contain oxalates, which are unstable salts of oxalic acid. They produce a highly toxic acid.
- Oak and walnut. It contains a lot of tannic acids. It is best to put them under the trees.
- Diseased plants, with rhizomes or treated with pesticides, seeds (such as quack grass and poison ivy).
