What is a domain name?

The designers of the Internet have thought of an elegant solution for this problem. This is the domain name. Each domain name is associated with an IP address. So the domain name is the own unique address of a website. The domain name is chosen by the website owner. It must be registered with a domain name registrar. The cost to register a domain name is very affordable.You have also to select a domain extension.
Generic domains (gTLDs). TLD stands for "Top Level Domain"  which are:. ASIA,. COM,. NET,. INFO,. ORG,. BIZ,. NAME,. MOBI,. And . XXX.

There are also extensions of domains Country code (ccTLD) for example. ".CA" for Canada. ".us" for UNITED STATES or ".cl "for Chile.

The new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’(ICANN) New gTLD Program is responsible for introducing new generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) into the Internet, those new domain names will make  the largest expansion of the Domain Name System (DNS) since the creation of the internet.  More than 1300 new domain names will be created. Here are some examples of new domain name availability: ".website , ".press", ".pictures", ".university" and etc.

Use the services of a registrar

To use the domain name that you have selected and to ensure you the exclusivity on the internet, you will need to register with an accredited provider, called a registrar. The Registrar will inform you if your domain name is available with the domain extension you want.
