The cyclamen that we find in the commerce and the nurseries during fall and winter are generally Persian cyclamen or Cyclamen persicum. This name is a little bit confusing about the origin of this plant. No species of cyclamen grow naturally in Persia which is now Iran. In its natural habitat, the cyclamen are found in high rocky hills, shrublands and woodlands of Greece, Israel, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria and Turkey. The flowers of the Persian cyclamen are available in red, purple, pink, salmon and white. The cyclamen is a tuberous plant that blooms in the fall and winter. The resting period is during spring and summer.
